William Lagesson leads the stories this week, as we look across the Oilers prospect group. Lagesson is showing very well in Sweden and could be one year away from playing pro in Bakersfield.
LD WILLIAM LAGESSON
After being loaned to Djurgarden of the SHL for this season, Lagesson took no time at all to establish himself as a strong option at that level. Currently 6gp, 0-1-1, he’s playing 20:32 a night, which ranks No. 3 among his team’s defenders. He’s a mobile defensive defender who could be pushing for an NHL job in the next couple of seasons.
RHD ETHAN BEAR
The young defender scored a goal in his first AHL game, the only one Bakersfield could score opening night. By all accounts Bear looked good in his pro debut, he has a nice range of skills. The fact he is a righty gives Bear extra value as RH are rare and handedness on defense is an important component (based on studies).
R OSTAP SAFIN
The young Saint-John Sea Dogs winger is the model of consistency. His boxcars (8gp, 3-6-9) include at least one point in every game but one. He’s also shooting a lot, 30 in eight games so far this young season.
L AIDAN MUIR
Drafted in 2013 (the Darnell Nurse, Anton Slepyshev draft), Aidan Muir entered his senior season with Western Michigan University this weekend. He is 2gp, 1-0-1 so far this year and his size (6.04, 212) and style may mean the Oilers sign him this summer.

All Condors numbers are here.
I am loving following the OHL prospects. Maksimov would likely have more points but he’s had to serve a two game suspension for a slewfoot.
It’s nice to see a promising RHD in Edmonton’s system. You guys are playing well now, but if Chia keeps his head up for the next couple of years he could really shore up the defence.
If that happens and Talbot stays gold you guys will be unstoppable.
Now I will go to my; “quiet place” and deal with traumatic 80’s flashbacks for a time.
What about that Marino kid?
Any info on Tyler Benson? Is he fit to play?
He’s supposed to join the Giants on their road trip this week.

It’s a shame Chia-pet gave away an elite D like Justin Schultz, who then played a key role in winning TWO cups for the Pens. You cannot replace that kind of game changer on D… bonehead move!
Couple that with playing Draisatl out of position because there is no depth on wing with Ebs and Hall given away for pucks, and you can clearly see why this goof got fired in Beantown. Sorry guys, but these types of bad decisions are going to cost the Oil a cup or two for sure – bring back Sather already!
After the Oilers win a cup, are you going to change your name to PenHawk Oil King
