Kailer Yamamoto leads this week’s performances for Oilers prospects, the young winger is playing in the NHL (3gp, 0-1-1) and delivered his first point at that level this week. He is averaging 12 minutes a night and has 10 shots in those three games. There are no guarantees he’ll stay past nine games, and maybe he doesn’t see the ice that many times this fall. What we do know is that he was one of the best (if not the best) players in an Oilers uniform on Saturday night. Yamamoto is writing an amazing story just a few short months after his draft day.
BAKERSFIELD CONDORS
The Condors have a lot in common with the Oilers right now, including one scoring line, goaltending in a slump and one win. Word today has Edmonton calling up a forward in the next few hours, any guesses? Jim Matheson mentioned Brad Malone, that makes sense. I’ll vote for Joey Laleggia or Jesse Puljujarvi, what with the lack of scoring on the wings with the big club currently.

there is a RW future here with Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Safin and Maximov….i have a feeling that at least 2 of these 4 will pan out but i am taking another RW with our late 1st rounder to add to the pile like Jesse Ylonen or Serran Noel for example.
I don’t think the numbers tell the entire story on Lagesson and Berglund – they are both playing large minutes, in particular Lagesson, who seems to be playing close to 23 minutes a night. Berglund often getting in and around 20 minutes.
Really liking the progress of these two Swedish d-men.
Although the Oilers surely could use some scoring help on the wings, Puljijarvi would not be my call-up at this time. He wasn’t ready for an NHL scoring role 10 days ago and I don’t think he is ready after only 3 AHL games.
He’s had some wobble in his 3 games – a very bad giveaway in his 2nd game that led to a 3 on 1 against. That’s fine, those mistakes will happen and the player learns from them but, if he did that in the NHL, it would be bad – he needs to learn from those mistakes in the AHL. Not to mention, after he gave that puck away, he was extremely lazy on the backcheck – had the opportunity to skate back hard and break up the play but didn’t and a goal was scored against.
This isn’t a slag of Jesse, just my opinion that he needs more time. He remains an extremely important prospect for the organization with an unknown (but high) ceiling. He deserves the opportunity and privilege to be developed in the proper league. The worst thing we could do is yo-yo him this year. I would like 10 games straight at a minimum in Bakersfield and then evaluate a potential call-up.
Malone or Lallegia would be my picks – probably Malone as, from the small exhibition game sample size, I don’t think Joey L. will be able to contribute offensively at the NHL level despite his speed on the forecheck.

Yam deserves at least his 9 games – not as charity but as a real shot at sticking around a lot longer than that.
