I’ve been watching managers and general managers in different sports for decades. Certain facts are universal: Players inherited are valued differently than players procured by the new manager; no GM likes to lose a player he procured for nothing in return; if a manager liked a player two years ago, there’s a good chance he likes him now.
All of these things arrive at our doorstep today. The Vegas Golden Knights have placed Griffin Reinhart on waivers, and Edmonton has some depth issues on defense. Yohann Auvitu is the seventh man but has been used sparingly so far this year. Peter Chiarelli knows Reinhart, has a need and a waiver pickup by the Oilers is manageable. It would put the team at 50 contracts and require someone (likely Auvitu) to clear waivers. How does Todd McLellan feel about Reinhart? Maybe we find out tomorrow.
GM GM TROLLING CHIARELLI?
- Bob Stauffer: For those asking about Reinhart on waivers. Remember priority until November 1st is based on last season’s standings. Source
Hold the phone! This sounds like news! Edmonton is close to the basement in the overall standings. If Vegas had waited until October 31 to waive Reinhart, the Oilers would have had a good shot at picking him up on waivers! Now? Unlikely, although they may well put in a claim or make a trade. George McPhee trolling Peter Chiarelli? You make the call!
WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?
I think Griffin Reinhart gets claimed tomorrow morning. Reinhart is a famous prospect and NHL teams can’t resist redemption songs. It isn’t likely Edmonton wins a claim but GR may be headed to another big league city tomorrow at 10am Edmonton time. I’d love to know if Chiarelli makes a claim on him.
10 bucks he clears waivers
I’ve got $10 bucks that says right now Bob Green is waiting in his car in the loading zone at the Edmonton International Airport. My head stills swims when, after acquiring Griffin for valuable draft picks, Green admitted he had not seen Reinhart play since Junior. Mind boggling.
Some one here owes me 10 bucks. I’ll take cash or gift card thanks.
After reports that the team is looking to get faster, adding Reinhart would be a strange move.
Reinhart please no. Why repeat mistakes. If they do pick him up I guess they are trying to position themselves for The lottery.
I don’t see the issue if he comes here… we lost nothing in the expansion draft and he played REALLY well for us in the play offs.
Good Christ. He is not breaking any other NHL lineup. Is not even cracking Vegas 7 D and yet the Oil would want him?! No wonder the Oil are at the bottom of the NHL again.
Who said the Oil want him? You are jumping to conclusions.
SO here is a chance for Snow to claim Reinhart and trade him to the oilers and fleece Chia out of something again .
Wonder if Gregor is still defending the draft day trade,
Chia got fleeced big time with that one. He has lost more trades than He has won.
Maybe we can trade our first and second round picks for him again.
Did the GM not state he wanted to get faster? That right there should say everything we need to know.
That is why we sign Lucic and Jokinen.
Better than what we have… running a 30% winning record and we get picky?
Grab Reinhart
Worst. Trade. Ever.
Riight cause that was worse than #99 leaving town…
I’d say he’s not trolling him, but he might feel that if he waits then Chiarelli will certainly put a claim in if he knows how likely he is to get him. This way it’s a bit of a long shot and Chia might just decide it’s not necessary to improve the team.
I’d put a claim on him just because he can’t be any worse than Auvitu…
Gryba and Reinhart for 1st Pairing…Russel and Auvito for 2nd Pairing.
I can’t believe this is happening.
I know. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Except it would take us to 50 contracts, right at the limit, until Yamamoto is assigned to Spokane and his contract finally slides.
I’d rather have Griff than Auvitu but I’d rather make a trade to get a contract out (Christoffer, Ferlin, etc.) than to take on the contract in isolation.
I don’t mean to get all over Reinharts case about how slow he is but he just arrived home from his last game.
Please stop. Bloggers, Oilers management, just stop. He’ll amount to more than me at hockey but never amount to an impact player. Toss up if Jokinen or Reinhart on worse use a space on the 50 man list.
I’m not even sure Reinhart would be above Simpson on the depth chart at this point..
The Oilers also can’t lock themselves into a 50 man roster, if a body comes in, one has to go out. Besides, if PC isn’t concentrating on getting a skilled winger then his mind isn’t on the issues at hand.
When should we start talking about moving McDavid? I don’t want to be responsible for destroying his career. Best player on earth, on a team, that is at best, average. We will never be an elite team, when our assessment of talent is so bad.
My question is, Who gets fired first? Chia or TMac?
My vote is on the GM…
The scaret thing is that he was the best opion for Las Vegas to claim, which means a lot of the bottom hhalf of the Oilers roster is mads up of players that are fring players
Today on waivers, matthew barzal and brandon carlo
So who is the next call-up from Barons?
Simpson or Puljijarvi (who’s offence will spike once recalled and played in the top 6 – he is driving and creating offence for the Condors according to his coach – 9 shots last game – simply has not offensive players to help him).
Rumoured to be on trading block from San Jose – M.Boedker (RW), Tierney (C) , and defenceman P. Martin . Should Oilers be interested in one or more for trade ?
Oil needs to make move soon. They are not even .500 team. Leon back helps, Benning looks better. The Defence is still very young. Get some solid 25 yo plus D
Who is this Griffin Reinhart you speak of? He was waived and no one claimed him. Wasn’t he the guy Chia gave up for a #16 + #33 in a so-called strongest draft in over a decade?
Barzal’s 6 points would be a tie for fourth on the Oilers today.
3 of the biggest major mistakes Chiarelli made.
1. Reinhart for #16 + #33 in a strong draft ( this will haunt them for years pipeline is weak)
2. Signing Lucic for 7 years at 6M ( Buyout eventually)
3. Not having a backup goalie for Talbot( worked out despite Chiarelli last year )
That’s something that Eberle for Strome didn’t make your list but those are some doozies regardless. Save us, McDavid!!
I didn’t like the trade, I thought they should keep Eberle at least for this year because I thought he has a good chance of being a better player after playoff experience.
Nope it was time for buttercup to leave.
Eberles playoffs sealed his deal.
Also, hate players who have proved they can score at a point a game pace under the right circumstances. Or maybe Eberle is too old to repeat his 70+ point season.
Strome is just what we needed. I think he is our best RW right now. LW is no party either.
Get rid of Chia before he does any more damage with some boneheaded moves. For example Russell @ 4X4 and Lucic @ 6X6. Reinhart again. I hope not.
