More bad news for Oilersnation today as the Edmonton Oilers have placed Cam Talbot on the injured reserve and recalled Nick Ellis from the Bakersfield Condors.
For a city that needed some good news right now, this was definitely not it. Frankly, having Talbot placed on the IR is the opposite of good news. Despite his struggles early in the season, Dadbot was starting to round himself back into form and was starting to look more like the guy that led us to the playoffs last year. By putting him on the IR, the Oilers will be without their starter for at least a week, giving Brossoit a chance to get some reps in.
Talbot had an MRI yesterday which revealed some issues with a previous injury from this season. It’s not believed to be too serious at this point but needs some recovery time.

Talbot missed yesterday’s practice with an undisclosed upper body injury and hadn’t yet been ruled out for today’s game. Clearly, whatever the doctors saw was enough to require that Talbot spend a week on the shelf, making way for LB to take his place for the time being. Brossoit will get thrown into the deep end tonight as the high scoring Maple Leafs are in town. Now that he’ll be the starter for the next week at least, Peter Chiarelli’s gamble to not go out and get an experienced back up goalie will be put under the microscope.
Here’s hoping that Talbot can pull a Carey Price and come back with a fire in his heart and a chip on his shoulder.

Given how the Oilers have started this season, given how badly some pretty critical players have played for the majority of this season, I didn’t think it could get much worse.
It’s WAY worse.
Funny, but that might be what’s needed to get this team winning & better this season.
It’s not unheard of for a mediocre back-up goalie to come in and play lights out when the starter goes down…
Check Murray in Pitts…. Also, through all the crap, this team is way too talented. This adversity is just what they need to re-kindle that effort… Do it for your fallen team-mates, if not for your fans… These 2 next games are milestones that should be conquered… I promise, most will be forgotten…
Let’s hope this is the rallying cry the team needs to finally start playing in front of their goaltender. And hopefully Broissoit can play like he did last year. 4-1 record and 928 sp ain’t bad
I don’t what to think of this. The Oiler ship is adrift. They are like a ship at sea with no sails, no rudder and a sea sick crew. Poor performances from McDavid on down now Talb’s is down. It’s hard to stay positive right now. All this after Chiarelli’s ho-hum presser which said little.
The sails & rudder are typically the coaching staff,… Let’s see if they kick-in….
Cam Talbot has been placed on the IR list, upper body injury. He must have strained his wrist when he was
Disembarking the P. C. Valdez.
Guys it’s Brossoit, not Gustavsson. We will be fine
Yet another kick in the nuts that relates back to Chirelli’s decision to stand pat during the off season. He’s clearly of the opinion that LB would be capable of backstopping this team for an extended period if Talbot becomes unavailable. I guess we’re about to find out if yet another gamble blows up in our faces.
Come-on, ease up on “Ol’ Chia… he needs all the positive vibes he can get………..
If was the mysterious upper body injury, to get a poorly performing player out of the lineup without the media asking why he was benched.
This is a dumb comment…even for ON.
Well one step closer to drafting Rasmus Dahlin.
Doom and gloom! Why don’t you back our goaltender. LB will be solid. The real question will be, will the oilers score some goals?
Toronto will …….
Toronto will? Because our backup isn’t good enough? I don’t understand what you are getting at. You just told me to back our goaltender and now you are saying he is going to get scored on.
Lol. Toronto’s numero uno in the league for goals scored I believe. That’s what I mean.
Being positive it’s a good opportunity for LB and provides more knowledge for Chia regarding the backup position.
I agree what better time than now to find out if LB has got the goods necessary fora true backup,or have we just been treading water. It’s time for him and the rest of the team including Chiarelli put up or shut up.
Well we will soon see if LB has got game. Like I said a few weeks ago if Talbot suffers an injury we are so done.
We can thank Pete for failing to provide the team with a proven big league backup.
I’m looking forward to seeing how McDavid performs against Kadri(if that matchup happens). Kadri is quick, fast, no quit pain in the ass player.
Good luck LB. Hope you have an excellent game.
