Bakersfield Condors sign Dylan Wells to a tryout deal

Yesterday, it was announced that goaltender, Dylan Wells, has signed a tryout deal with the Bakersfield Condors that will see him joining the team for their remaining 11 games. This will be Wells’ first run with the Condors as he will look to make his professional debut.

In 56 games played this season, Wells was 20-30-3 with a 3.62 GAA and a .896 save% with the Peterborough Petes. Wells played a lot for the Petes this year as his 3230 minutes played ranked fifth among all OHL goaltenders. He will now get his first taste of professional hockey as the Condors look to play out the stretch with no playoffs on the horizon.

In Wells, the Oilers organization will get a look at a guy that won a gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka tournament in 2015-16 and was named team MVP with the Peterborough Petes last season. Wells signed his entry-level contract with the Oilers in May of 2017 but will be reporting to Bakersfield on a tryout deal that won’t burn off a year of his ELC.

So who is Dylan Wells? We took a look at the young goaltender last year. As a taste:

He’s got size and athleticism and he shows flashes of brilliance. Let me remind you that Matt Murray had a save percentage of .876 in his NHL draft year. Look at him now. I could see Wells turning the corner in similar fashion and that’s why I think he’ll still be a fairly high NHL draft pick.
