It’s been a fairly busy week in Oilersnation thus far. First, the Oilers relieved Duane Sutter of his duties, then they signed defenceman, Logan Day, to a one-year entry-level contract. Now, Ken Holland has just signed goaltender, Olivier Rodrigue, to a three year ELC.
Rodrigue just finished his third season in the QMJHL with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, and put up a 2.43 GAA and a .902 S% in 48 games. He is one of many goalies in the Oilers deep prospect pool right now, and with the recent contract, he’s got to be feeling good about his future.
In case you forgot, the Edmonton Oilers traded a third and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2018 Entry Level Draft to Montreal for their second-round pick. We then used that second-round pick to draft Rodrigue 62nd overall. The two players who later got drafted by Montreal were Jordan Harris and Samuel Houde.
Rodrigue is known for his athleticism and is very quick in his crease. With our backup goalie situation being unknown at the moment, if the Oilers choose to promote one of their Bakersfield Condors goalies to the position, I wonder if this opens up a spot for Rodrigue to compete for on the AHL squad? However, from Ken Holland’s most recent interview with Jason Gregor, it sounds like he wants a more experienced goaltender in the Oilers backup role. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!

They need to get Hayden Hawkey signed !!!
i cannot comment on a junior goalie from the quebec league.
It was too bad that he hurt his groin late in the year and missed the stretch drive and some playoff time.
Look for him to be invited to the summer camps for Team Canada and, hopefully, make the team.
From accounts, this isn’t going to happen and Hawkey will become a UFA on Aug 15.
Rodrigue would not be able to play in the AHL next year! He’ll 20 next year!
Perfect. Let him get lots of starts in the Q next season. Maybe a stretch drive look in the AHL in the spring. There will still be NHL goalies looking for work after the fourth of July so getting a #2 for the show should be easy.
Can this guy at least catch the odd puck shot at him … ???
Be cool if Ken brought a bunch of insider info with him from working for a real nhl team. Lots of scouts in the know and such. These random signings are at least showing he is doing something. I want something way more than I want what we got the last 14 years. Anything.
How do you get 3 penalty minutes?
I give up. How?
the same way he got 2.54 wins, 53 assists, and 3001 goals against last year…
….MAGIC!!!
Pfft Magic….
Clearly the QMJHL season is 1181 games long.
The column headings are wrong, need to be shifted over one column to the right. No more 3 minute penalties lol
He better stay in the q. There was no progress this year. And Skinner and wells are struggling. Keep him in q and sign hawkey. This gives you another year on starett.
Of course he’ll be in the Q, he’s not eligible for the AHL this coming year.
Hawkey is not being signed – he will become a UFA on Aug 15.
Any reason why Hawkey wouldn’t sign here?
I’d like to think he was confident enough to try and compete here if the offer was solid and management was interested in him.
I have never heard of FloHockey before, so I have no idea how credible this is, but this article end with “Hawkey, whose rights were traded to Edmonton last June, hopes to sign with the Oilers following the season.”

Depth never hurts.
Yes! It’s good to finally have some goaltending depth in the system. I’d be shocked if one of them didn’t turn out to be something good !
