Thoughts from a first year Novice Half Ice coach

The novice hockey season is about to wrap up and it was the first year with two half-ice games going on at the same time on the same sheet of ice for Novice-aged players (7). If you aren’t aware of some of details with the changes made from Hockey Canada from full-ice games at the…

PAY IT FORWARD

When I retired from hockey I knew I wanted to spend more time with my family, but I also loved the sport of hockey. I had opportunities to make coaching hockey my next career, and I was very interested. The idea of working with a group of players to build them up, and make them better,…

Stanley Cup Finals Musings

As a player I always enjoyed analyzing the way both Stanley Cup Final teams were built. It was a good way to compare my own team to the elite squads in the league and to see how far (or close) we were to real success. There were springs where I felt my team wasn’t too many pieces away. FINAL PRE-SEASON GAME THOUGHTS

#468441129 / gettyimages.com The Oilers iced a thin lineup in Vancouver. Many of their top players were not playing. Hall, Nuge, Pouliot, Fayne, Perron sat out. Although we knew this was coming from Eakins comments Thursday post game, I was still surprised and left scratching my head at the decision.

Where does Yak fit?

#478498809 / gettyimages.com Nail Yakupov is the wild card the Oilers have up their sleeve. The problem is they don’t really know what kind of a wild card he is. He could be a strong offensive force and be a legit NHL scoring weapon. He could also be a streaky player with defensive lapses like we…
